Avoid going out during extreme cold. If you do go, cover yourself with different layers to fight against the extreme cold. This is especially true for people afflicted with fever as they never should take any chance and leave it to the cold to do its deed.

  1. Get in that icy feeling

Fever can be cooled off by the application of cool compresses on your forehead. As the word suggests the compress should be cool enough to get those compress of little cold to absorb the heat, so the treatment gets it going. When a damp cold compress, cloth or a towel is applied your forehead, the damp cold is absorbed by the high temperature of your body. This high temperature is directed towards your forehead (most of it) and from it helps you cool down. This idea of getting the cold compressed is especially good for children. You can make it with ice and put it your cloth, towel or even a plastic bag or just put these in the freezer for some time.

  1. Don’t ever cover yourself with a lot of layers.

Most parents do this. Probably your parents did it too. But it is not the right way to treat fever as it is literally not helping the heat stay inside your body. It means it is the opposite of the outcome you want it to be.

  1. Get yourself a little lukewarm bath

Think of it as the extended version of cold compress. Our main goal should be to let go of the heat that is in your body due to excessive fever. The water should neither be extremely cold nor extremely hot.

  1. Undress

Sometimes your clothes are also enough to keep the fever heat tucked inside. You might be wearing a jacket that is stopping you from getting that heat from the fever far far away. It should be the same with getting yourself in a lot of layers. We need the heat to escape and not store it so we can stay hot with fever.

  1. Give it time

This is another thumb of rule for the uninitiated. Fever goes away with time and you should have the virtue of patience so that it can easily go. Otherwise fretting about it will never help but will actually contribute to the problem. This is one of the best 6 things to do when you have a fever.
